A group of around 80 pro-Palestinian activists set up a blockade at the entrance to the Rectorate Building at Ghent University in East Flanders on Tuesday morning. The main entrance to the building was barricaded using building site fencing. Palestinian flags and pallets were also added to the barricade to prtevent staff and students from getting through. The activists are calling for Belgian universities end all cooperation with Israeli academic institutions.

Belgium’s second largest passenger airport has reopened after operations were suspended on Tuesday morning due to a bomb alert aboard a Ryanair plane. Just before 11am on Tuesday a bomb alert was triggered aboard a Ryanair plane that had landed at Charleroi Airport in Hainaut Province. The plane had arrived at the airport that is sometimes referred to as “Brussel South Airport” from Faro in Portugal.

The impact of the drought is increasingly making itself felt in Flanders. Since the beginning of March there has been very little rainfall. As a result of this groundwater levels are low and the risk of wildfires is increasing. At 12 noon on Tuesday the Flemish Woodland and Nature Agency implemented its Code Red wildfire prevention measure in the whole of Antwerp and Limburg provinces.
